| The late Gerald E. Morris, former Library Director at the G.W. Blunt White Library at Mystic Seaport, established a prize article contest in 1980 to encourage research and publication in the field of American Maritime History. Now expanded to include international maritime studies, the principle aim of this prize is to engender interest in maritime scholarship, and make it available to a diverse audience. The winning article will be chosen from submissions to CORIOLIS each year by a committee of Fellows of the Library. The author will win the $1,000 prize. For the purposes of the prize, articles must adhere to the Author Guidelines as outlined for CORIOLIS. The winner will be announced June 1 of each year for articles submitted in the previous year.
